A CHRISTMAS QUESTION: "Unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is Given"HAS HE BEEN BORN TO YOU? HAS HE BEEN GIVEN TO YOU?
CHARLES H. SPURGEON

On Sunday morning, December 25, 1859 a 25 year old Charles Haddon Spurgeon ascended the pulpit steps and announced his text that Christmas morning as Isaiah 9:6, "Unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government shall be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." Spurgeon introduced his sermon that morning with these words:

"This morning the principal object of my discourse, and, indeed, the sole one, is to bring out the force of those two little words, "UNTO US." For you will perceive that here the full force of the passage lies. "For UNTO US a child is born, UNTO US a Son is given." The divisions of my discourse are very simple ones.

First, is it so?

Second, if it is so, then what?

Third, if it is not so, then what?

We at Solid Ground are persuaded that this sermon needs to be read again and distributed far and wide during this season of the year. This would make the perfect stocking stuffer, and it would be a great gift to give anyone you know who needs to know the truth about Jesus Christ. Hear the way Spurgeon begins the last passionate point of his powerful sermon:

"Dear hearer, I cannot tell where thou art, but wherever thou mayst be in this hall, the eyes of my heart are looking for thee, that when they have seen thee, they may weep over thee. Ah! miserable wretch, without a hope, without Christ, without God. Unto thee there is no Christmas mirth, for thee no child is born; to thee no Son is given. Sad is the story of the poor men and women, who during the week before last fell down dead in our streets through cruel hunger and bitter cold. But far more pitiable is thy lot, far more terrible shall be thy condition in the day when thou shalt cry for a drop of water to cool thy burning tongue, and it shall be denied thee; when thou shalt seek for death, for grim cold death, seek for him as for a friend, and yet thou shalt not find him. For the fire of hell shall not consume thee, nor its terrors devour thee. Thou shalt long to die, yet shalt thou linger in eternal death, dying every hour, yet never receiving the much coveted boon of death. What shall I say to thee this morning? Oh! Master, help me to speak a word in season, now. I beseech thee, my hearer, if Christ is not thine this morning, may God the Spirit help thee to do what I now command thee to do."

In the foreword to 'A PLEA TO PRAY FOR PASTORS,' Pastor John MacArthur writes, 'A Plea to Pray for Pastors' is excerpted from Gardiner's Spring excellent book, 'The Power of the Pulpit.' REFORMED BAPTIST PUBLICATIONS

ARBCA PUBLICATIONS

UNCONDITIONAL ELECTION by Earl Blackburn. Expounds the biblical doctrine of unconditional election to salvation and the historical Baptist position on this doctrine.

WHAT IS A REFORMED BAPTIST CHURCH? - Bill Payne. Describes five characteristics of a Reformed Baptist Church, namely The Scriptures, Preaching, The Doctrines of Grace, Evangelism and Worship. (BACK IN PRINT)

WHY YOU SHOULD JOIN A CHURCH by Earl Blackburn. Lays out seven sound and biblical reasons why people should join a local church. The booklet concludes with four benefits flowing from church mebership. EXCELLENT FOR NEW MEMBERS' CLASS. (BACK IN PRINT)

WHICH CHURCH SHOULD YOU JOIN? by Earl Blackburn

Once the question of joining a church is settled, the next logical question is which or what type of church should you join? This booklet is perfect to give to those who genuinely want to find the RIGHT Church for them and their family. As Pastor Blackburn points out, "Not all churches are alike." He sets forth to lay out Seven Qualities you should look for in a church. (BACK IN PRINT)

THE MYTH OF FREE WILL by Walter Chantry

Chantry succinctly and clearly demonstrates from Scripture the myth of 'circumstantial' freedom, 'ethical' freedom, and 'spiritual' freedom. He concludes with these strong words, "The will is in the chains of an evil human nature. You who extol the free will as a great force are clinging to a root of pride. Man, as fallen in sin, is utterly helpless and hopeless. The will of man offers no hope. It was the will choosing the forbidden fruit that brought us into this misery. The powerful grace of God alone offers deliverance."

TO GOD BE THE GLORY: The Biblical Doctrine of Particular Redemption by Wayne Mack

BACK IN PRINT AFTER SEVERAL YEARS. As in all writings by Dr. Mack, this booklet addresses the biblical doctrine of the atonement on Christ in a practical way. Rooted in Scripture he brings us back again and again to face the implications of the finished work of Christ in our personal life and our evangelism.

THE LORD'S DAY - Philip Schaaf. Written by the celebrated church historian and is intended to teach that Sunday is the Christian Sabbath The writer's purpose is to show this observance is not only based on Scripture, but on apostolic and historical practice.

PAEDOISM OR CREDOISM - Richard Barcellos. A defense of baptism of believer's by immersion from a covenantal position.

THE MEANS OF GRACE by Earl Blackburn is an outstanding introduction to this vital subject, as a seasoned pastor explains the meaning of the term, and then explains both the Private Means of Grace and the Public Means of Grace. This is aptly sub-titled HOW YOU CAN GROW AS A CHRISTIAN.

BAPTISM AND COVENANT THEOLOGY by Walt Chantry is a very helpful introduction to Covenant Theology and its relationship to baptism. Chantry does a masterful job of exposing the flawed reasoning of those who practice infant baptism. Well done.

CHURCH ATTENDANCE: IS IT IMPORTANT by Earl Blackburn

A very handy little booklet from a veteran pastor on the spiritual importance of faithful attendance at a biblically sound church. Blackburn lists numerous blessings that flow from sitting under the ministry of the Word each week.

***MISSIONARIES SHOULD BE 'IMMERSED' IN CHURCH by Walter Chantry. This little pamphlet addresses a problem with much modern missions: a failure to honor the God-ordained sending agency, the Church of Jesus Christ. (***INCLUDED FREE WITH EVERY AND ANY ORDER)

BIBLICAL CHURCH DISCIPLINE: The Neglected Mark of the Christian Church
Daniel E. Wray

Today the church faces a moral crisis within her own ranks. Her failure to take a strong stand against evil (even in her own midst), and her tendency to be more concerned about what is expedient than what is right, has robbed the church of biblical integrity and power.

This is an unedited edition of the former Banner of Truth Booklet that was first published in 1978. It is as urgently needed today as it was when first written.

This is the perfect tool to use in membership classes, Sunday School classes and for the literature rack in the church.

"When I first read Daniel Wray's 'Biblical Church Discipline', I immediately recognized one of the primary reasons for the lifeless, worldly condition of the churches I attended: the absence of Christ's doctrine of church discipline. The Lord Jesus used this little booklet to transform my thinking and to focus my heart upon a doctrine essential to the healthy condition of His blood-bought churches. If you have never considered this subject, I cannot recommend a better place to start. And if you need a refresher, read Daniel Wray." - Jeff Pollard, pastor of Mt. Zion Bible Church, Pensacola, FL

"Wray's work is a wonderful primer on its subject. The second definition of primer is 'A book that covers the basic elements of a subject.' The root of primer is from the Latin for first. This book has been the first to be consulted by many who have faced real life issues related to church discipline. It remains a well-balanced and properly basic reminder of what is most important." - Dr. Michael Renihan, Pastor of Heritage Baptist Church, Worchester, MA

"In 1978 the Banner of Truth Trust printed a small booklet, 'Biblical Church Discipline' by Daniel Wray. This short and inexpensive pamphlet is a nice collection of the biblical teaching on church discipline. Following an introduction stressing the importance of the biblical injunction for discipline, Wray collects Scripture to address the following: (1) necessity and purpose of discipline, (2) modes of discipline, (3) proper recipients of discipline (4) objections and questions. It is this fourth section that is most practical and anticipatory of the major objections. Following his conclusion is also an appendix on 'What our Protestant Forefathers Taught Concerning Church Discipline', which is a collection of creedal and reformation fathers' testimony toward the necessity of church discipline. This small version is most helpful to the minister and the student." - David W. Hall, from his article 'Bibliographic Essay on Church Government'

THE BAPTIST CATECHISM with Scripture Proofs
Introduction with Slight editing by Dr. James Renihan

FINALLY BACK IN PRINT AGAIN.

This is the 2004 updated edition of THE BAPTIST CATECHISM which was originally published by order of the Particular Baptist General Assembly that met in London in 1693. Dr. James Renihan has given us a "slightly modernized and edited version" that has proven very useful to Reformed Baptist Churches all over the world for the past ten plus years.

In the opening words of the Introduction Dr. Renihan speaks for the Association of Reformed Baptist Churches of American, when he writes: "With great joy we present this Catechism to the church of Jesus Christ. It has a long and noble history, and we trust it will be of great usefulness to many more generations of Christians. We believe that an important part of the teaching office in the church is the provisionj of sound and solid theological materials for use by parents, and this little document wonderfully meets that need."

C.H. SPURGEON said the following: "I am persuaded that the use of a good Catechism in all our families will be a great safeguard against the increasing errors of the times, and therefore I have compiled this little manual from the Westminster Assembly's and Baptist Catechisms, for the use of my own church and congregation. Those who use it in their families or classes must labor to explain the sense; but the words should be carefully learned by heart, for they will be understood better as years pass. May the Lord bless my dear friends and their families evermore, is the prayer of their loving Pastor."

JOHN MURRAY, the great 20th century theologian, told the children in his Sunday School class the following about the surpassing value of The Shorter Catechsim: "Now everyone of you children should know the Shorter Catechism from the beginning to the end without a mistake by this age. Now that's without joking at all. At the age of twelve you ought to know the Shorter Catechism from beginning to end without even making a mistake. You don't know what you are missing! Get down to learning it, if you haven't already learned it! It will not only give you the most perfect human compendium of Christian truth that there is in the whole world but it will be the finest mental exercise and it will lay a foundation in your mind and in your life for a hundred other things as well as for true religion. The mere mental discipline of learning it with exactness down to each preposition is one of the best disciplines that we know of in this world in the field of education. The primary reason is to learn it for the purpose of having in your mind a comprehensive compendium of Christian truth, but even apart from that there are a hundred by-products. It will be invaluable to you through your whole life, and not only in this life but in the life which is to come. "

THE THEOLOGY OF THE REFORMATION
Benjamin B. Warfield

In 1917, at the 400th anniversary of the Reformation, Benjamin B. Warfield wrote this outstanding article which appeared in The Biblical Review which was published by The Biblical Seminary in New York. Here Warfield set forth, as only he could, the true Heart of the Reformation. In opposition to many in his day who were seeking to find the genius and the genesis of the Reformation in something other than theology, Warfield wrote: "The Reformation was then - we insist upon it - precisely the substitution of one set of theological doctrines for another. That is what it was to Luther; and that is what, through Luther, it has been to the Christian world. Exactly what Luther did was for himself - for the quieting of his aroused conscience and the healing of his deepened sense of sin - to rediscover the great fact, the greatest of all the great facts of which sinful man can ever become aware, that salvation is by the pure grace of God alone."

"Like his younger colleague at 'Old Princeton,' J. Gresham Machen, Warfield believed that the Christian faith is capable of scholarly defense. In this study, Warfield takes on fallacious, dismissive views of the Reformation set forth by the foremost historian of the early twentieth century, Charles Beard. Warfield shows what the Reformation was at its heart, and how its doctrines alone account for its astonishing power and its manifold effects as a movement in history. And he does so thoroughly armed with forceful arguments and substantial evidence, in a style unsurpassed for sanity, clarity, and more than a bit of scintillating dash. Recommended reading for all Reformed Christians!" - Dr. Joel R. Beeke, President, Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary, Grand Rapids, Michigan

"B B Warfield was a remarkable Christian author, equally at home in Church History and systematic theology as biblical studies. He is remembered today primarily for his robust theology of biblical inerrancy, but there are many other reasons to remember him. In particular, in this quincentennial of the Reformation, Warfield's cogent reflections on theásignificance of the Reformation are important documents to read. Very glad to see these texts back in circulation!" - Dr. Michael Haykin, Professor of Church Histroy, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, KY

Sam Waldron wrote: "One of my sons is named after Benjamin Breckenridge Warfield. áso you might guess that I love his stuff.á Over the years and especially in my early years he became my teacher on many, many issues.á Even on the rare occasion when I disagree with him, he remains so very helpful and informative.á I welcome the publication of these works by Solid Ground."

This new booklet is the first of a new series entitled SGCB REFORMATION 500 which will introduce vitally important works to the church and the world as we approach the 500th anniversary of Luther's act of naling the 95 Theses to the Church Door at Wittenburg.

Our other soon-to-be-released work is called THE NINETY-FIVE THESES IN THEIR THEOLOGICAL SIGNIFICANCE by Warfield.

THE NINETY-FIVE THESES IN THEIR THEOLOGICAL SIGNIFICANCE
Benjamin B Warfield

In 1917, at the 400th anniversary of the Reformation, Benjamin B. Warfield wrote this outstanding article which appeared in The Princeton Theological Review. Once again Warfield found himself standing in opposition to the opinions of many in his day who were very critical of the 95 Theses of Luther. Warfield corrected one of these notions when he wrote: "The Theses constitute, in point of fact, a theological document of the first importance, working out a complete and closely knit argument against, not the abuses of the indulgence traffic, and not even the theory of indulgences, merely, but the whole sacerdotal conception of the saving process; an outgrowth and embodiment of which indulgences were."

"Foundational documents are often more revered as sacred totems or set up as straw men to attack, than read, studied, and rightly understood on their own terms. Warfield shows that such has been the case with Luther's famous Ninety-five Theses. He sets out to show that far from addressing only one objectionable practice of the day, Luther's theses call in question 'the entire prevalent theory of the relation of the Church as the institute of the salvation of souls,' that is, the gospel or way of salvation as proclaimed by the pre-Reformation church. He goes on to show that those who underestimate the Theses as a theological statement are so wide of the mark as to suggest that they never read them. And as always, Warfield depends on erudition, clear-headed thinking, and a gracious yet forceful style. A 'must read' for those who want to know what the Reformation truly was in its beginnings." - Dr. Joel R. Beeke, President, Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary, Grand Rapids,

REMEMBERING LUTHER'S FIGHT: A Primer on Martin Luther's Life and Legacy of Standing for the Gospel
Kurt M. Smith

"There seems to be no end of Luther studies and especially in this year, 2017, when many are celebrating the beginning of the Reformation. Kurt Smith's brief study is extremely helpful, though: he isolates the core legacy of Luther and why his life and thought is still needful of study and reflection today. Moreover, he is quite prepared to strike new ground based on a careful reading of the evidence: his dating of Luther's conversion to 1518 is a case in point and that as the real beginning of the Reformation (should we then be shifting our celebration to next year?!) With the questions at the close, this is an ideal tool for studying the significance of Luther's life and having something to celebrate (whether this year or next!)" - Michael A G Haykin, Professor of Church Histroy, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, KY

"REMEMBERING LUTHER'S FIGHT is a shot of spiritual B-12 and caffeine to jolt slumbering saints to full attention. Kurt Smith has read the right books,ámade the right connections and seen the right things and explained it so we can all understand and profit from it. How do you answer the mostáimportnat question in the whole world--"What must I do to be saved?" áMartin Luther was brought to his senses by the grace of God to see that the answer to life's most important question is--salvation is by God's grace alone áby faith alone in Christ alone. No other question or answer is as important. If medical doctors lose their license to practice for misdiagnosing patients and mistreating them to their injury and death, how much more accountable areáphysicians of souls who mislead poor sinners to their eternal ruin. Thank God for such a helpful and concise introduction to Martin Luther and his recovery of the gospel." - Steve Martin, Coordinator of ARBCA, The Association of Reformed Baptist Churches of America

THE FIVE SOLAS: Standing Together, Alone (THE ENGLISH VERSION)
John Samson

R.C. Sproul recently wrote the author the following words: "YOU HAVE SUCCINCTLY AND CLEARLY DISTILLED THE ESSENCE OF THE 'SOLAS.' MAY GOD MIGHTILY USE YOUR BOOK FOR HIS GLORY. THANK YOU FOR THE ENCOURAGEMENT IN THE GOSPEL YOU HAVE BROUGHT ME."

"Some authors make you read three chapters before getting to the first point in their outline. If you wish to understand the foundation of the solas of the Reformation but would like to do so in under an hour, John Samson provides you with the basics right here." - Dr. James White, Alpha & Omega Ministries, Phoenix, Arizona

"Recent years have seen a number of key anniversaries connected with events and people who were vital catalysts in the Protestant Reformation. Thankfully this has resulted in a renewed focus on the 'five solas' - a convenient shorthand list of the Reformers' key convictions. Throughout church history, wherever these principles have been stressed and adhered to, the church has always flourished. So it is a highly encouraging trend. I'm thankful for this excellent booklet by John Samson; a cogent, focused, and accessible study of the solas that not only reminds us what these principles mean, but also shows us why they are important - and why they must stand together." - Phil Johnson, Executive Director, Grace to You

"This is such a crucial topic; and having read many pieces written on the five solas, this one stands out for not only being theologically sound, but also clear and concise. It is written in a way that just about anyone could pick up and understand. I am thankful that God has raised up his servant John Samson for this deeply needed work; a work we ought to get into the hands of as many people as possible." - John Hendryx, monergism.com

John Samson begins this vitally important work with the following few paragraphs. These are provided to whet your apetite for more -

"Light dispels darkness. When the light of God's Word shines into places of spiritual and cultural darkness, it transforms people, families and nations. It does not matter how long the darkness has persisted; when light appears, darkness, like a hostile, renegade, usurper to the throne, must submit, bow its head, and walk away in shame. Again, light dispels darkness. The entrance of God's word brings light!

Darkness is the shared experience of a people without light. Such was the case before the Protestant Reformation. The Bible was not known. In its place, religious superstition, tradition and falsehood reigned. The Reformation brought God's word and the Gospel back into the hands of the masses.

Man-made traditions that had kept the people in bondage for centuries were now exposed for what they really were. Entire nations, held captive by the powers of darkness, were now exposed to the truth. Dramatic change occurred. Outside the book of Acts in the New Testament, there has not been a greater move of the Holy Spirit in the history of the church. Our world would never be the same. A Latin phrase, 'Post tenebras lux' captured the enfolding, historical drama, meaning, 'After darkness, light!'

As the Bible came to be read in the common language of the people, the great central truths the Bible proclaimed were recovered, often at great cost to those who came to embrace them.

The Reformation recovered and highlighted glorious Scriptural truths which have been expressed in five memorable phrases, now known as the Five Solas. Properly understood, these Five Solas bring us back to the very heart of the Gospel of Jesus Christ."

THIS IS NOW THE FOURTH VOLUME IN OUR REFORMATION 500 SERIES

LAS CINCO SOLAS: Estando Juntas, Solas: THE FIVE SOLAS: Standing Together, Alone (THE SPANISH VERSION)
John Samson

SOLID GROUND HAS LAUNCHED ITS FIRST SPANISH EDITION OF ONE OF OUR TITLES, 'THE FIVE SOLAS' BY JOHN SAMSON, AUTHOR OF 'TWELVE WHAT ABOUTS: Answering Common Objections Concerning God's Sovereignty in Election.

ENDORSEMENTS IN SPANISH

—Phil Johnson, Executive Director, Grace to You

"Esto es un tema tan crucial; y después de haber leído muchas piezas escritas sobre las cinco solas, ésta se destaca por no sólo ser teológicamente sólida, sino también clara y concisa. Está escrita de una manera que casi cualquier persona podría levantarla y entenderla. Estoy agradecido de que Dios haya levantado a su siervo, John Samson, para este trabajo tan necesario; un trabajo que deberíamos poner en manos de tantas personas como sea posible." —John Hendryx, monergism.com

HOLDING GEORGIA FOR GENEVA: P.H. Mell and the Baptist Defense for Calvinistic Orthodoxy
Kurt Smith

Kurt Smith begins this powerful treatise with these words:

"When I think about the predominant view of historic Evangelical Calvinism among Southern Baptists in our day, I am reminded of what Judges 2:10 lamented over a particular generation in the nation of Israel: 'And there arose another generation after them who did not know the Lord or the work that he had done for Israel.'

Applying this to what appears to be the majority of Southern Baptists in relation to Calvinism - they are a 'generation' of people who know nothing of the theological heritage and confessional identity of their forbearers as doctrinal Calvinists. And to capitalize on this disappointing ignorance, there has also arisen a certain group of Southern Baptists who would lead the majority to believe that while Calvinism was present in the earliest days of Southern Baptist life, yet it was modified and seated in the background of what Southern Baptists actually believed. This line of thinking therefore draws the following conclusion: if Calvinism once existed at all among Southern Baptists, it was never the prominent, leading conviction of Southern Baptists.

But we have to ask: Is this true? Is this what the actual record of history proves about Southern Baptist doctrine? If we peruse the primary source material of Baptists in the South during the late 18 th century into the 19 th century as a whole, we will discover that for these Baptists, Evangelical Calvinism was believed, confessed, preached, and defended in bold relief. Moreover, it was not a so-called 'moderate' Calvinism, but a thorough 'Five-Point' Calvinism which they held so dear. And this was especially true of Georgia Baptists during this period in history.

In fact, so strong and uncompromising were their convictions Calvinistic doctrine that, as Baptist historian, Dr. Gregory Wills, affirmed: "From one corner of the state to another, churches and associations defrocked preachers for questioning Calvinist doctrines, criticized even slight alterations in Calvinist creeds, and blocked fellowship with doctrinally careless congregations. Just as the Georgia Association disfellowshiped Jeremiah Walker and his Arminian followers in 1790, so the Sunbury Association refused to alter their creeds from 'eternal election of a definite number' to 'election according to the Scriptures.' Throughout the nineteenth century, the Calvinists won victory after victory. They held Georgia for Geneva."

And among these Georgia Baptists who 'held Georgia for Geneva,' there was no voice with greater clarity and consistency than Patrick Hues Mell."

Tom Nettles opens his Foreword with these wordas - "Kurt Smith has produced an excellent volume reflecting the spirit and doctrine of P. H. Mell. This is not a detached, sapless, unimpassioned discussion, but biography put to the task of advocacy. The discussion accurately unfolds Mell's earnestness for Calvinism as biblical doctrine, profitable for evangelism, church purity, and personal sanctification. At the same time it presents what Kurt (I join him in this) believes is healthy biblical doctrine for the twenty-first century Baptist as well as the nineteenth-century Baptist."

"Kurt Smith has done an enormous service to Baptists all over the world in bringing out of the shadows of relative obscurity a great servant of Jesus Christ. SmithÆs easily read and well documented small biography of P.H. Mell, his life, labors, and doctrine, is stimulating and immensely welcomed. Every Christian, regardless of his denominational affiliation, should read this booklet and become better equipped to declare the glorious, all-powerful gospel that Mell believed and expounded, and which shaped the Christian world of the 19th century." - Earl M. Blackburn Senior Pastor, Heritage Baptist Church Shreveport, Louisiana

KURT M. SMITH is the pastor of Providence Reformed Baptist Church in Pine Mountain, Alabama. He is the author of 'Remembering Luther's Fight' and co-author to 'The Gospel Heritage of Georgia Baptists: 1772-1830' - both published by Solid Ground Christian Books. He is also a contributing author to the multi-volume series, 'A Noble Company: Biographical Essays on Notable Particular-Regular Baptists in America', published by Particular Baptist Press. He and his wife, Lorrie, have three children.

THOUGHTS ON PREDESTINATION & ELECTION
BENJAMIN B. WARFIELD

Whenever Professor John Murray of Westminster Seminary was asked by students whom they should read, he had a one word answer, "WARFIELD."

I have appreciated the counsel of Prof. Murray more and more as the years have gone on, and I have turned back again and again to read Warfield on dozens of subjects. The two articles that make up this new booklet are amongst my favorites. Warfield is never more eloquent than when expounding the truths that magnify God, and no truths magnify God more than the truths of Predestination and Election. Once you sit down and read these two articles you will never view these truths the same. Here is truly life-transforming truth! Doctrine that leads to Devotion. Take up and read. You will never be the same when you do!

"In his 'Thoughts on Predestination and Election,' Warfield guides us through the wonder-filled landscape of the electing favor of God. In this concise treatment, he investigates the mysteries of election and predestination—the 'first moving of God's grace', 'the firstborn of all God's favors'. Warfield lays before the reader a portrait of God's electing love which establishes an enduring foundation for the Christian's confidence. More than that, he calls for an earnest and whole-hearted response of faith and obedience. His balanced handling of this doctrine removes all place for human boasting as well unbiblical fatalism. Warfield brings the reader to understand how God's electing love not only promises holiness in the Christian; it guarantees it!" -John Snyder, pastor of Christ Church, New Albany, MS, and author of 'BEHOLD YOUR GOD: Rethinking God Biblically' and 'BEHOLD YOUR GOD: The Weight of Majesty'

"Whether a person likes them or not, the doctrines of predestination and election are unmistakably found in the Holy Bible. What is to be done with these teachings? Some rejoice in them, others hate them, still others distort their clear biblical meaning, and, worst of all, many simply ignore them. Warfield will not allow us to get away with the latter. His clear and simple, yet profound exposition of these truths will challenge the reader, fortify the church, strengthen the Christian's walk, and inflame vision for a world-wide spreading of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Read and rejoice!" - Earl M. Blackburn, Senior Pastor, Heritage Baptist Church, Shreveport, Louisiana

"I once heard a wise pastor say to a group of fellow ministers, 'In all your labors as Gospel ministers, leave the people with God.' Whenever I read B.B. Warfield's theological writings, this is what I am always left with - I am left with God. And in these present papers on Predestination and Election, the reader is most indeed left with God. Here, on subjects that tend to fuel great controversy, Warfield helps us to look beyond ourselves and behold who God is in predestination and election. He therefore helps us see these doctrines as they're presented in Scripture with the end not leaving us in debate but in worship of the One true and living God. I am grateful that Solid Ground is publishing these papers together in an accessible format for a generation of believers who need to think Godward and thereby biblical over doctrines that should be precious to the church." -Kurt M. Smith, Pastor of Providence Reformed Baptist Church, Remlap, AL and author of 'Holding Georgia for Geneva' and 'Remembering Luther's Fight' both published by Solid Ground

"When you say, Churchill, no more is needed. There are musicians like that. Take Elvis, for example. In the world today, though Elvis died over 40 years ago, his name is recognized across generational lines. Well, in the theological world WARFIELD is all you have to say and any theologian (or pastor) worth his salt knows what you mean. Here we have some of Warfield's finest pieces of theology drawn together. The master theologian treats these doctrines just as the Westminster Confession advises: 'with special prudence and care.' The results are, likewise, Westminsterian: 'praise, reverence, and admiration of God.'" C. N. Willborn PhD, Senior Pastor-teacher, Covenant Presbyterian Church, Oak Ridge, TN

"Few have grasped these doctrines more firmly than Warfield, and few have taught them more clearly and more simply. Rich, reverent, plain, precise, and deeply informed." - Fred G. Zaspel, author of "The Theology of B.B. Warfield" and "Warfield on the Christian Life"

Dr. Benjamin B. Warfield graduated from the College of New Jersey, now Princeton University, in 1871 and after a period of study abroad at Edinburgh and Heidelberg entered Princeton Theological Seminary and was graduated with the class of 1876. Following a year's study at Leipzig, Germany, and a short pastorate in Baltimore he was appointed instructor in New Testament Language and Literature in Western Theological Seminary in Pittsburgh and a year later elected professor. In 1886 he was called to succeed Archibald Alexander Hodge as professor of Systematic Theology in Princeton Theological Seminary—a position which he occupied with great distinction until his death in 1921.

Dr. Warfield won early recognition as a scholar, teacher and author. He received the degree of Doctor of Divinity from the college of New Jersey in 1880; that of Doctor of Laws from both the College of New Jersey and Davidson college in 1892; that of Doctor of Letters from Lafayette College in 1911; and that of Sacrae Theologiae Doctor from the University of Utrecht in 1913. He was editor of the Presbyterian and Reformed Review from 1890-1903 and until the time of his death, the chief contributor to the Princeton Theological Review.

Solid Ground has published The Lord of Glory, The Person and Work of the Holy Spirit, The Power of God unto Salvation, The Theology of the Reformation and The Ninety-Five Theses in their Theological Significance by Warfield. We have also published works that include contributions by Warfield, such as, Biblical and Theological Studies, Calvin Memorial Addresses and Princeton Sermons from 1891-92

BIBLICAL EXEGESIS: Its Influence Upon the Theologian and Preacher
William G.T. Shedd

On Monday evening, January 11, 1864 William G.T. Shedd D.D. was inaugurated into the Chair of 'Biblical Literature,' in the Union Theological Seminary in New York. The services were held in the Madison Square Church, and Charles Butler, Esq., Vice-President of the Board of Directors, presided on the occasion, and put the constitutional questions to the Professor elect. The services were opened with prayer by the Rev. Dr. George L. Prentiss. After the Induction of Professor Shedd, the Charge was delivered in behalf of the Directors by the Rev. William Adams, D.D., of New York.

The Memorable Address that is found in this booklet was delivered that evening by Prof. Shedd and was entitled BIBLICAL EXEGESIS: Its Influence Upon the Theologian and Preacher. With this outstanding address Shedd made clear his absolute commitment to Biblical Authority and the role exegesis must hold for the Theologian and the Preacher. This work is a must read for all who are called to study and teach the Holy Scriptures in the Seminary Classroom, the local Church or even in the home.

Shedd concludes his address with these solemn words: "It is to such a high office and work as this, that you have called me, Fathers and Brethren, Directors of Union Seminary. That I do not feel sufficient for this thing, I need not say. I cannot bring to this chair the accurate grammatical discipline, the solid philological learning, and the remarkable geographical knowledge of the eminent scholar whom I succeed. But I can, I trust, bring to it an ever-deepening reverence for the Divine Word, a firm confidence in its infallibility, and an increasing sense of dependence upon the illumination of the Divine Spirit. If these be in any Christian man and abound, they will make him that he shall neither be barren nor unfruitful. For they will stimulate him to study, to investigate, to analyze; and they will pour the clear and guiding light of heaven itself over all his studies, all his investigations, and all his analyses."

Shedd went on to serve faithfully this post of Biblical Literature at Union until 1874, when he was appointed to the Chair of Systematic Theology where he faithfully served until 1890. It was during the final years of his service at Union that he began his life-work, his great three volume DOGMATIC THEOLOGY.

"We have used Peter Jeffrey's 'Seeking God' for many years to show unbelievers of all ages how to 'seek the Lord while He may be found'. It has proved most effective in special Sunday School classes, as a popular item on our tract rack with visitors and in believers' personal distribution to their friends. Seeking God shows you how to seek God, cautions you how NOT to seek God and encourages you as to why it all matters. Unlike so much fluff today, this is older, wiser, biblical counsel from a veteran 'obstetrician of souls.'" - Steve Martin, Former Executive Director of ARBCA

SECRETS OF HAPPY HOME LIFE
J.R. Miller

NEW PRINTING NOW AVAILABLE

"Secrets of Happy Home Life" by J.R. Miller is a little book that can transform every home that it enters. The Spirit of God blesses the truth and nothing but the truth, and this booklet is filled with truth. It was first published in 1894, and immediately found its way into homes and hearts all over the world. Tens of thousands of copies were printed and stories came from far and wide about marriages that were preserved from certain destruction by the simple, biblical instruction found in these pages.

Jerry Bridges said, "Secrets of Happy Home Life is one of the most helpful and heartwarming books I have read on family relationships. Though written a hundred years ago, its message is timeless and much needed today."

"This little volume is priceless! Miller rightly and forthrightly tells his readers that Christ is the secret of a happy home life; but he doesn't leave that as a nebulous concept. Miller breaks this truth into bite-sized pieces of spiritual instruction that bring soul nourishment on every page. The approach is truly pastoral. The memorable phrases teach practically, convict consistently, and comfort surely. This is a fine tool for the Holy Spirit to use in bringing the grace of Christ to the homes of believers. Pastors: Get it into the hands of every one of your church families. You won't regret the investment!" - Bill Shishko, Pastor, Orthodox Presbyterian Church, Franklin Square, NY

Don Whitney added, "The language of this little book is quaint, but its truths are timeless. Miller wrote with a warm, sweet-spirited style."

Randy Stinson, of The Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood, said, "This is an absolute 'must read' for engaged couples, newlyweds, and marriage veterans, who will all benefit from this insightful and instructive little book."

THE FEAR OF GOD: The Soul of Godliness
John Murray

'THE FEAR OF GOD' BY JOHN MURRAY IS BACK IN PRINT ONCE AGAIN!

This material is taken from Murray's classic work on Biblical Ethics entitled PRINCIPLES OF CONDUCT. It is a wonderful introduction to a vital area that is largely ignored in our day. Although brief, as with all of Murray's writings, it is a very full and weighty piece of practical theology, that should end in doxology for all who read it with an open heart and a mind in subjection to Holy Scripture.

"Many of us owe more than we can say to the example and teaching of John Murray. He wrote nothing hurriedly and for the short term. These pages, as much as anything he prepared, take us to a most vital aspect of a true relationship with God.May they help another generation to be faithful servants of Christ!." - Iain Murray, Author of "The Life of John Murray"

"John Murray's booklet on the fear of God--a theme that desperately needs to be resurrected today--is the best short treatment of this subject anywhere in the English language. From his renowned opening sentence ('the fear of God is the soul of godliness'), to his emphasis on piety, and his careful exposition of the marks of the fear of God (a consciousness of the transcendent majesty and holiness of God, an all-pervasive sense of the presence of God, a dependence upon and responsibility to God, and a constant consciousness of relation to God), Murray's treatment is biblically balanced and nuanced. It confirms the need for obedience to God that is motivated by filial fear and underscores, as Murray says, that 'the eclipse of God, whether viewed as doctrine or as attitude, evidences the deterioration of faith in the living God.' Buy this booklet in bulk and give a copy to each of your friends. It can do them and the church immeasurable good." - Joel R. Beeke, Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary, Grand Rapids

"'Principles of Conduct' is Murray's masterpiece. It is as solid as Pike's Peak." James I. Packer

"Historically, and more importantly biblically, the fear of God has been regarded as essential to true devotion to God. But in recent years this foundational element of piety has been overlooked or even rejected as belonging to the era of the old covenant and not properly Christian (I actually read the latter sentiment in book by a popular North American author!) How welcome then to have John Murray's classic study of the fear of God available in this format. Read it and nourish your soul!" - Dr. Michael Haykin

"In his 'Principles of Conduct', Professor Murray's insights into Christian ethics are shaped by a careful integration of exegetical, biblical, systematic, and practical theology. The chapter on "The Fear of God," here published separately for the first time, is cut from the same cloth. Rightly seeing that the fear of the Lord is the first and most basic lesson in Christian ethics--the true beginning of godly wisdom and knowledge, Professor Murray conducts us into this inner sanctuary of the Christian life." - Dr. Robert Paul Martin

"'The fear of God is the soul of godliness.' These opening words of Professor Murray's chapter on this theme are like a bucket of ice water thrown into one's face in a day of cozy, comfortable, man-centered and casual Christianity. However they are true words. In this booklet Prof. Murray convincingly defines the fear of God and then demonstrates from the Old and New Testaments how central it is to any biblically framed experience of the Christian life. May God be pleased to use these pages to move many to rethink this central theme of the Word of God." - Pastor Albert N. Martin, Trinity Baptist Church, Montville, NJ

"The fear of God could be nothing less than the soul of rectitude. It is the apprehension of God's glory that constrains the fear of his name. It is that same glory that commands our totality commitment to him, totality trust and obedience. The fear of God is but the reflex in our consciousness of the transcendent perfection which alone could warrant and demand the totality of our commitment in love and devotion." - Professor John Murray

"Murray will be a reminder of what is ultimately important. He presents a needed distinction lacking in most presentations of the fear of God. A crippling, servile, always-looking-over-the-shoulder fear is unhealthy in the believer. We are God's sons and daughters; He loves us. Instead, we need a God-honoring, reverence of Him who produces the pursuit of, and the fruit of, godliness." - Dr. Mike Renihan

"With a wealth of biblical citations, Murray identifies the soul of godliness as a reverence for God as transcendently majestic and holy, constraining the forgiven sinner to adoration, love and obedience. Murray's writing on the subject is pervaded by the awe and filial devotion which he commends to us." - Dr. Sherman Isbell

THE DISTINGUISHING MARKS OF FALSE TEACHERS
Thomas Brooks

This new booklet is one of our new series of cutting edge pamphlets that address the burning issues of our day. This pamphlet consists of seven marks by which one can identify a false teacher.

THE DISTINGUISHING MARKS OF FALSE TEACHERS by Thomas Brooks

Our Lord warned His disciples, "Then many false prophets will arise and deceive many" (Matthew 24:11). These words of our blessed Savior ought to strike terror in the hearts of all alive and awake to the condition of the church at the opening years of the 21st century. Not only will 'many' false teachers arise towards the end of the age, but they will be very successful, for 'many' will follow them. How are we to make certain that we are not either deceiving or being deceived? How can we tell if we are part of that 'mamy' described by our Lord?

This little booklet may be just the help you need. Fofr that reason Solid Ground has taken the time and trouble to make this material on THE DISTINGUISHING MARKS OF FALSE TEACHERS by Thomas Brooks available in this very handy form.

THOMAS BROOKS (1608-1680) is regarded as one of the greatest of the Puritan writers and pastors in an age of many great men. In 1652 he wrote a treatise entitled, "Precious Remedies Against Satan's Devices" from which this material is extracted. Here he seeks to inform the people of God of the many and various devices of the devil along with specific remedies for each device. Wisdom from above is found on every page.

FOR WHOM DID CHRIST DIE? The Extent of the Atonement
John Murray

"Of all the men I have known John Murray was the man I have judged to be most full of God. To see walking him about the campus set your heart beating faster and you hurried along to join with him, drawn by his love. Then you were careful what words you spoke when you were with him because of his holiness. He would take a class of students into the presence of God and preach his lectures with the deepest earnestness and clarity. He was a fearless Christian whose mind was bound captive to the Bible. Where the Bible went John Murray went and his heart was full of the atoning death of his Saviour as his only hope in life and death." - Geoff Thomas, Alfred Place Baptist Church, Aberystwyth, Wales

"Did Christ die to save me? Or did he just die so that I may be saved? John Murray addresses these questions in a thoughtful and biblical way. He concludes that 'the atonement is efficacious substitution.' Read this excellent essay and find out what he means." - Dr. Robert Martin, Emmanuel Reformed Baptist Church, Seattle, Washington; Editor, Reformed Baptist Theological Review

"When our Savior offered himself a sacrifice for sin, he acted in redeeming love. Towards whom was that love directed? The cross is the power of God unto salvation, but what was actually accomplished by the crucifixion? A ransom was paid, but what was the effect of it? These questions of deep interest are examined by John Murray through a careful study of the most pertinent passages of Holy Scripture. What emerges is a sense of the omnipotence of Christ's love and the rich and full provision he has made for needy sinners." - Sherman Isbell, Westminster Presbyterian Church, Bethesda, MD

"The question of the extent of the atonement is simply: for whom did Christ make atonement? In even simpler language it is: for whom did Christ die? The question is: on whose behalf did Christ offer himself a sacrifice? On whose behalf did he propitiate the wrath of God? Whom did he reconcile to God in the body of his flesh through death? Whom did he redeem from the curse of the law, from the guilt and power of sin, from the enthralling power and bondage of Satan? In whose stead and on whose behalf was he obedient unto death, even the death of the cross? These are precisely the questions that have to be asked and frankly faced if the matter of the extent of the atonement is to be placed in proper focus." - John Murray

WILLIAM CAREY And the Greatest Generation
Jerry Slate

A BRAND NEW TITLE BY A PASTOR IN GEORGIA WHO HAS A BURDEN FOR MISSIONS.

"The story of William Carey is iconic for western missions. And while the story has been told many times, this re-telling by Pastor Slate has historical precision and well-honed application. A fabulous introduction to what Slate calls, and this author concurs, 'THE GREATEST GENERATION.'" - Michael A.G. Haykin

"The Lord's ways are marvelous! The inspiring story of William Carey and the Particular Baptist Mission Society glorifies our God. This account by Pastor Jerry Slate will encourage and challenge you. Read it, and then pray for missions. Pray for men to be sent. Pray for the extension of Christ's Kingdom." -James M. Renihan

"Having read many accounts of the life of William Carey and how God so powerfully used this Father of Modern Missions, I was dubious that any untried angle remained for another telling. But I was delightfully surprised by Slate’s recounting of this missionary hero. I commend it to you whether you come to it very familiar with Carey’s story or are learning about it for the first time. May God use it to raise up more men like Carey, more missionaries like the Serampore trio, and more missions senders like the London trio." - M. David Sills, D. Miss., Ph.D.

FAITHFULLY HOLDING THE ROPES: The Life & Ministry of Samuel Pearce
Jerry Slate

ANOTHER OUTSTANDING BOOKLET ON MISSIONS BY PASTOR JERRY SLATE OF BEREAN BAPTIST CHURCGH IN HIRAM, GEORGIA. THIS IS A COMPANION VOLUME WITH 'WILLIAM CAREY And the Greatest Generation' WHICH IS ALSO AVAILABLE FROM SOLID GROUND.

"The spirituality and life of Samuel Pearce are one of the great treasures of the Calvinistic Baptist tradition, and deserve to be much better known. May this overview by Pastor Slate be an introduction to and encouragement to read the larger memoir written by Pearce's close friend Andrew Fuller. Highly recommended!" -Michael A.G. Haykin, Professor of Church History The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, K?Y.

"Although Samuel Pearce is not as well known as many of his contemporaries, his missions fervor and commitment commend him to a permanent place of honor. May this retelling of his short life and lasting impact serve to trumpet his example to a new generation. Our generation needs godly examples like Samuel Pearce - men with sound doctrine and missions zeal who are ready to go, but willing to stay." ?-M. David Sills, D. Miss., Ph.D. A.P. & Faye Stone Professor of Christian Missions and Cultural Anthropology, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, President, Reaching & Teaching International Ministries

Louisville, KY

Presbyterians have rightly thanked God for the brief life and ministry of Robert Murray McCheyne. Did you know that the Baptists had a similar man, just a generation before? Though his life was short, Samuel Pearce’s impact was great. In this account, Pastor Jerry Slate tells us about Samuel, and Mr. Pearce points us to Christ! Hallelujah." - James M. Renihan, Ph.D., Dean, Professor of Historical Theology at Institute of Reformed Baptist Studies

WOMEN SPEAKING IN THE CHURCH: What Does the Scripture Say?
Benjamin B. Warfield, Robert L. Dabney & Geoffrey Thomas

NOW AVAILABLE TO SHIP

Two classic pieces join together with a contemporary one to address an increasingly thorny issue facing the church. The first piece is a brief article by B.B. Warfield (1851-1921) which is an exposition of Paul's words to the Corinthians concerning women speaking in the church. He concludes with these words:

"The difference in conclusions between Paul and the feminist movement of today is rooted in a fundamental difference in their points of view relatively to the constitution of the human race. To Paul, the human race is made up of families, and every several organism, the church included, is composed of families, united together by this or that bond. The relation of the sexes in the family follows it therefore into the church. To the feminist movement the human race is made up of individuals; a woman is just another individual by the side of the man; and it can see no reason for any differences in dealing with the two. And, indeed, if we can ignore the great fundamental natural difference of sex, and destroy the great fundamental social unit of the family, in the interest of individualism, there does not seem any reason why we should not wipe out the differences established by Paul between the sexes in the church. Except, of course, the authority of Paul. It all, in the end, comes back to the authority of the apostles, as founders of the church. We may like what Paul says, or we may not like it. We may be willing to do what he commands, or we may not be willing to do it. But there is no room for doubt of what he says."

The second and longer piece was writtern by Robert Lewis Dabney (1820-1898) and first appeared in The Southern Presbyterian Review for October 1879. It begins with these words:

"In this day innovations march with rapid strides. The fantastic suggestion of yesterday, entertained only by a few fanatics, and then only mentioned by the sober to be ridiculed, is today the audacious reform, and will be tomorrow the recognized usage. Novelties are so numerous and so wild and rash, that in even conservative minds the sensibility of wonder is exhausted and the instinct of righteous resistance fatigued. A few years ago the public preaching of women was universally condemned among all conservative denominations of Christians, and, indeed, within their bounds, was totally unknown. Now the innovation is brought face to face even with the Southern churches, and female preachers are knocking at our doors."

The third piece was written (after being preached) by Pastor Geoffrey Thomas, who has retired after more than 50 years of ministry in the same church in Aberystwyth, Wales. Thomas speaks with the same message but does so in the 21st century, expounding and applying the word of the Apostle Paul in 1 Timothy 2:12-14. We are delighted to be able to add his wise words to make this booklet even more substantial.

THE CHURCH NEEDS THESE WORDS TODAY, AND NEEDS THEM DESPARATELY!

"When it comes to the late nineteenth century the names R. L. Dabney and B. B. Warfield are in a peculiar class--the foremost class of biblical theologians. Those familiar with their writings will not be surprised that they wrote on such a contemporary topic (then and now) as women and their role in the Church. They were acutely aware of cultural currents and pressures and offered incisive biblical-theological answers. The Church can only benefit from the abiding truths they mined from Holy Scripture. It's good to have their contributions in one volume. Readers beware: you may not like what you read in this little book, but you better not dismiss it!" -- C. N. Willborn, PhD

"This project is a must! Feminism and egalitarianism are insidious errors, striking at the heart of both home and church and probably society as well. Both God's creation ordinance and the character of the the church are affected. Warfield and Dabney deal with these matters biblically and powerfully. I cannot urge you strongly enough to get these two great works into print. You must do this!" - Pastor Don Lindblad

RECOMMENDED BY CHRISTIAN LEADERS

"I highly recommend this book. It is a clear, biblical and practical guide to marital intimacy." - Dr. Tom Ascol, Executive Director of Founder's Ministries

"Get this booklet! In the overly sexualized society that is America today, Ray Rhodes has provided an invaluable service by helping us to think biblically about sex to the glory of God. In a format that is deceptively brief and affordable, Rhodes hands out solid treasures from God's word that will enrich the lives of every husband and wife who read it. While carefully avoiding the excessive permissiveness or restrictiveness that mar other works, Rhodes is biblical, personal, practical, helpful and enjoyable!" - Bruce A. Ray, author of Withhold Not Correction and Celebrating the Sabbath, and Secretary of FIRE (Fellowship of Independent Reformed Evangelicals). Bruce is Pastor of Juanita Community Church in Kirkland, WA.

"Marital intimacy is one of the Lord's greatest gifts to his creatures. Sadly, many couples fail to experience the fullness of that gift. Pastor Ray Rhodes skillfully and sensitively brings husbands and wives to the word of the Creator to rediscover his beautiful design for the marriage bed in this wonderfully helpful book." - John Crotts, co-author Tying the Knot Tighter: Because Marriage Lasts a Lifetime (with Martha Peace). John is also the author of Mighty Men and Craftsmen.

"Pastor Ray Rhodes proves in the present volume that he understands and implements the Puritan ideal of Christ-centered, biblical and practical living. Imagine a book on marital intimacy that has the modest restraint of a godly pastor, the sound theology of a Scriptural exegete and the experimental authenticity of a two-decade-plus faithful husband -- you hold such a book in your hand! " -Dr. David W. Bailey, author--Speaking the Truth in Love: The Life and Legacy of Roger Nicole.

"Writing on a subject so sensitive and provocative is a minefield of potential offenses to a reader's conscience, but this book navigates the issue of sexual intimacy with tact, wisdom, simplicity, and grace. Well done." - Pastor Scott Kay, Grace Church, Alpharetta, GA. Scott writes at, http://scottwkay.wordpress.com/

TWO NEW RHB BOOKLETS IN CULTIVATING BIBLICAL GODLINESS SERIES
Earl Blackburn & Ray Penning

WE ARE NOW OFFERING TWO BRAND NEW BOOKLETS IN THE OUTSTANDING 'CULTIVATING BIBLICAL GODLINESS' SERIES BY RHB

HOW CAN I HONOR CHRIST IN FIGHTING CANCER? By Earl Blackburn

Almost everyone diagnosed with cancer will endeavor to fight it. As a cancer survivor, Earl Blackburn encourages everyone diagnosed with cancer to fight it. Although he thinks medical treatment is important, the fight he is primarily interested in is spiritual. In How Can I Honor Christ in Fighting Cancer?, Blackburn shows how this spiritual fight, conducted in a manner that honors Christ the Creator and Lord, will aid the cancer patient's medical fight tremendously. Through Blackburn's experience, a series of practical lessons derived from it, and from Scripture, you can better understand what a godly fight against cancer looks like.

"Most of us either have had cancer or have had a close family member or friend who was diagnosed with cancer. In light of this, Christians need to be prepared to face cancer and to cope in a biblical manner. Pastor Blackburn's book is a useful pastoral tool to help us chart these waters. If you have cancer or the opportunity to minister to someone who does, this book is an invaluable resource." - Joseph A. Pipa Jr., president, Greenville Presbyterian Theological Seminary

HOW CAN I SERVE GOD AT WORK by Ray Penning

Inundated as we are with secular distortions regarding how to think about our work lives, we need to remind ourselves of basic scriptural truths in order to think clearly about the subject. In How Can I Serve God at Work?, Ray Pennings unpacks ten biblical principles that will help believers cultivate everyday godliness in a twenty-first-century North American context. Pennings also discusses how a biblical view of vocation contrasts with a secular one and how this might make a difference as we head to work in the morning. Armed with a proper theology of work, readers will be better equipped to serve and glorify God in things that are sometimes considered less spiritual.

"Practical godliness begins when we see the relevance, beauty, and provision of God for all our thoughts, words, acts, and circumstances. Ray Pennings helpfully teaches Christians how to notice the relevance, beauty, and provision of God for the work He calls us to do. This booklet can help Christians young and old to discover and rediscover a biblical vision of work." - Eric Moerdyk, pastor, Bethel Free Reformed Congregation, Monarch, Alberta
