THE CHURCH: Her Nature, Authority, Purpose and Worship
Jeff Johnson

THIS IS A BRAND NEW - REVISED AND ENLARGED EDITION.

"Like a carpenter refinishing a classic piece of furniture, Jeffrey Johnson strips away layers of human tradition and worldly-wise philosophy to restore our view of the church to its biblical simplicity. In this book the church shines! Johnson offers basic teaching on the purposes, worship, membership, and leadership of the church from a Baptist perspective. As a Reformed Christian I found especially valuable his emphasis on the holiness of the church and its worship as ordained by God's holy Word and lived out in His holy presence." - JOEL R. BEEKE, President, Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary, Grand Rapids

"In one way or another, virtually every troubling trend in the current world of evangelical Christianity is rooted in misunderstanding about the church. What is her proper mission? What is her role in an increasingly secular culture? What should her priorities be? How should a local church function? Why is church membership necessary? or is it? What is the basis for true unity? This excellent book shines the clear light of Scripture on those and many other questions. Since Christ loved the church enough to die for her, every believer ought to share that passion. Jeffrey Johnson clearly does, and I believe you will find his enthusiasm contagious." - JOHN MACARTHUR, Pastor/Teacherof Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California and President of The Master's College and Seminary

"In a day where many worship at the altar of pragmatism, the church is in dire need of a Biblical view of herself and her purpose. Pastor Jeff Johnson offers a concise, sobering, and eye-opening message for a generation in need of ecclesiological reformation. Johnson addresses the issues we face today, and roots them in their historical/theological context. Jeff reminds us that the deep, abiding truths of Scripture are sufficient to sustain the bride of Christ in every age." - VODDIE BAUCHAM, JR., Pastor of Preaching, Grace Family Baptist Church, Spring TX

"I am glad to recommend this new book by Jeffery Johnson, which confronts such ignorance in a very clear and Biblical manner. The book is very brief and direct and even applicable and necessary, especially for our day. The book covers almost every aspect of what a church is and what it should and should not be doing, according to the Scriptures. It can be used by the individual pastor or Christian to learn his duty to his church, or it can be the foundation of a series of sermons to enlighten a church in these areas, or it can be used as Sunday School material or in individual classes or Bible studies. If readers say they already have such books, I would tell you I do too. But every age is different, as it seems our churches slip further and further away from Biblical truth, in the passing of time, and they lean more and more towards the use of the latest unbiblical methods and thoughts of church ministry and church life. Here is a book which deals with the modern age in which we live, and the weakness of the church and churches of our day, and without fear the author sets forth Biblical truth as to what the church of our Lord Jesus Christ needs to be today according to Scripture!" - DR. RICHARD P. BELCHER, Author of 'A Journey in Grace'

"Every pastor of every free church in every generation has the incredible responsibility to preserve the public worship of God and continually guard it from the contamination of men's devices and imaginations. This practical book will help them! Writing as a pastor working on the front lines every day, Jeffrey Johnson boldly confronts and questions popular contemporary worship practices, urges us to reform our worship unto the beauty of God's awesome holiness, and exhorts us to restore prayer and preaching to their biblically-mandated prominence in our meetings. I especially recommend this to young pastors and those in seminary who someday may shepherd a church." - DAN LUCARINI, Best-selling author of 'Why I Left CCM: confessions of a former worship leader' and 'It's Not About the Music'

"This little book of Jeffrey Johnson has a loving and exalted view of the church of Jesus Christ, but it is also aware of its tensions and imperfections as congregations having to live in a fallen world under the holy requirements of the Head of the Church. This book will help you to understand the life of the church, its duties and blessings and it will encourage you to give your years to serving and strengthening the people of God." - GEOFF THOMAS, Pastor of Alfred Place Baptist Church in Aberystwyth, Wales

"With refreshing vigour and stimulating simplicity, Jeffrey Johnson gives us a sinewy outline of Scriptural principles for the nature and life of Christ's church. It is brief enough to be a useful introduction but deep enough to prompt careful thought and promote earnest practice. This little book is a fine antidote to shallow, casual, lukewarm attitudes to God's household, putting in place a legitimately high conception of the people of the living God working out their holy purposes in the presence of the living God." - JEREMY WALKER, Pastor of Maidenbower Baptist Church, Crawley, England, coauthor of 'A Portrait of Paul'

"The idea of church membership today is either an assumption that has never been challenged or considered biblically, or else abandoned by new church starts as a useless relic of the past that is irrelevant for churches and Christians now. We can be thankful that there are pastors such as Jeffrey Johnson who address this issue from a biblical perspective and demonstrate the importance of meaningful membership in a local church by Christians today." - DON WHITNEY, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, KY

"Jeffrey Johnson provides a big picture view of what the church is about without clutter or confusion. In understandable, straightforward chapters, the nature and practice of church life is explained so that even the newest of believers may comprehend. He has not tried to be innovative, but faithful to the Bible in his presentation. Among its uses, try it with those who are new to church life and need an explanation in lucid, accessible language." - JIM ELLIFF, Christian Communicators Worldwide

THE KINGDOM OF GOD: A Baptist Expression of Covenant & Biblical Theology
Jeff Johnson

THIS BOOK IS CURRENTLY OUT-OF-PRINT AND IN PROCESS OF NEW PRINTING.

THIS IS AVAILABLE ONLY IN AN E-BOOK FORMAT AT THIS TIME.

Is there a central plot to the Bible? And if so, why is the Bible divided into two different testaments? Moreover, how do these two testaments relate to each other? No doubt, it can be overwhelming to traverse the various covenants of the Bible. And it can be difficult to understand the unity and diversity of the Old and New Testaments. The Kingdom of God: A Baptist Expression of Biblical & Covenant Theology explains why the maze of the Old and New Testaments cannot be properly navigated or understood without a knowledge of the dual (law and gospel) nature of the Abrahamic Covenant. For the law of the Old Covenant and the grace of the New Covenant flow out of the Abrahamic Covenant and are wonderfully reunited in the gospel of Jesus Christ. In other words, out of the earlier dichotomy comes the later unity of the gospel message.

"Jeff Johnson has given us a lot to chew on. This treatment of the covenants gives a tightly argued discussion of the relation between the covenant of works and the covenant of grace. Johnson gives a cover-to-cover, Genesis-to-Revelation dramatic presentation of the story of the outworking of the covenant of grace through the conflict of the two seeds. It is gripping and compelling while it illustrates the doctrinal argument with power. He tells the story that is the ontological rubric behind all good stories. Giving serious attention to Johnson's tenacious engagement with the biblical theme of The Kingdom of God will expand one's personal knowledge of Scripture, extend one's confidence in the wisdom and certainty of divine providence, and exact transparent and pure praise to God for his invincible grace." -Tom Nettles, Professor of Historical Theology, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary

"On the many books that exist on covenant theology, rare are those that are accessible to neophytes while at the same time instructing the well read student on the subject. This one does both. If Jeffrey Johnson's first book, 'The Fatal Flaw', explained what Baptist covenant theology is not, The Kingdom of God explains what it is. In my view, the most important contribution of this work is to bring us the history of salvation through all the biblical covenants in a Reformed Baptist perspective. The deeper treatment that Jeffrey Johnson gives to the Abrahamic Covenant in this work is one of the clearest statements I have read. After you finish reading it, you will have a clearer view of the big picture of the kingdom of God." - Pascal Denault, Author of 'The Distinctiveness of Baptist Covenant Theology'

There is a BONUS appendix in this book, where brother Johnson takes a quick look at The New Perspectives on Paul. Some who are impressed with the wisdom of man have been swept away by this new view; Jeff shows us why the wisdom of God is to be trusted; even in the face of all the king's men with all their advanced degrees. The biblical Apostle Paul, not the one found in The New Perspectives, told us he did not come to us with brilliance of speech or wisdom, for he didn't think it was a good idea to know anything among us except Jesus Christ and Him crucified. He came to us in weakness, in fear, in much trembling. His speech and proclamation were not with impressive words of wisdom but with a powerful demonstration by the Spirit, so that our faith would not rest on the wisdom of men but on God's power.

THE ABSURDITY OF UNBELIEF: A Worldview Apologetic of the Christian Faith
Jeff Johnson

Because all non-Christian worldviews are indefensible, it is not sufficient for skeptics to attack Christianity without also defending the foundation for their own unbelief. Eve ryone has a worldview, even atheists and skeptics, but only the Christian worldview is not self-contradictory. The Absurdity of Unbelief demonstrates why every possible reason for unbelief is irrational and ultimately meaningless by exposing the various self-refuting systems of thought in which these objections are rooted.

"Chapter by chapter Jeffrey Johnson strips unbelief of any vestige of credibility, then shows with crystal clarity why the biblical case for God stands supreme when contrasted with all other philosophical and religious belief systems. I predict that this book will be as great a help to many of its readers as it has been to me, and I commend it warmly." - John Blanchard

"In 'The Absurdity of Unbelief', Jeffrey Johnson provides a clear and compelling case for the Christian faith, readable and usable for believer and unbeliever alike." - James White

"Jeffrey Johnson's scholarship and historical understanding of the entree field of philosophy and the other so-called religions is evident throughout the book. He has done a masterful job in showing that the Christian worldview is the only system that will meet all the tests of logic and ethics." - Curtis Thomas

WHAT EVERY CHRISTIAN NEEDS TO KNOW ABOUT SOCIAL JUSTICE
JEFFREY JOHNSON

TABLE OF CONTENTS

Foreword

Introduction

1. The Foundation of True Justice

2. The Foundation of Social Justice

3. The Evolution of Social Justice

4. The Injustice of Social Justice

5. The Intolerance of Social Justice

Glossary

"With the competence of a careful student and the heart of a faithful pastor, he has done the hard work of investigating the origins, development, and wickedness of the modern social justice movement. Well-researched, clearly written, and necessarily succinct, What Every Christian Needs to Know about Social Justice will be the first book I recommend to believers who want a trustworthy introduction to that movement." – Thomas Ascol

"The social justice agenda is a perverse movement that has various tentacles that impact nearly all the spheres of our modern society, including political, economic, academic, medical, athletic, and most troubling of all—the church of Jesus Christ. Due to the vast diversity and complexity of the movement, it becomes a unique challenge to explain the dangers of social justice. Jeff Johnson, in his book, What Every Christian Needs to Know about Social Justice, fulfills the calling of a Christian by contending “for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints” (Jude 3). Make no mistake about it, the social justice agenda is a devilish agenda, and Jeff Johnson explains and exposes it in his helpful book." – Josh Buice

"Johnson has given us a clear, doctrinally sound, historically astute, and philosophically insightful account of the development of critical theory and its manifestation in the social justice movement." – Tom Nettles

"With great precision, Jeff Johnson rightly defines and explains the origins and dangers of social justice in a way that neither overstates the problem nor understates the danger. For some time, I have longed for a book to be written that will help pastors and congregants to understand these complex issues and know how to respond biblically. That book has finally arrived!" –Tom Buck

"Jeff Johnson has done us a great favor by sticking to the important, key issues and shining a bright light upon the destructive impact of [social justice]." –James White

Pastor Jeff Johnson is the founding pastor of Grace Bible Church, the Owner/Operator of Free Grace Press and a graduate of Veritas Theological Seminary. He is the author of several books including The Fatal Flaw of the Theology Behind Infant Baptism, Behind the Bible: Introduction to Textual Criticism, The Church: Why Bother?, The Kingdom of God, The Absurdity of Unbelief, The Pursuit of Glory, He Died for Me, and The Five Points of Amillennialism.

ENDORSEMENTS

"Jeffrey Johnson helps us to step back and see the big picture that the Bible paints of God’s plan for human history. As a result, we can see clearly that God fulfills his promises to Abraham, Israel, and David in his blessings upon Jesus Christ and the people in union with Him—Jew or Gentile, now and forever. That is what amillennialism teaches. And when you see the big picture, it is much easier to fit the individual pieces into place." — Joel R. Beeke

"Jeffrey Johnson has provided an outstanding introduction to biblical eschatology. The Five Points of Amillennialismis a solid, biblical-theological treatment of the major themes of eschatology. Personally, I will use this very readable book as a tool to introduce people to a biblical eschatology that exalts the resurrected and reigning King, Jesus Christ." — Brian Borgman

"One of the reasons believers disagree over eschatology is because this doctrine involves numerous complex texts and hermeneutical questions. In this excellent short book, Jeff Johnson untangles five of the toughest matters to sort out. He writes with grace and ease, but the reader will note that his clear prose proceeds from deep thinking about some of Scripture's toughest passages. We're seeing rising interest in amillennial theology in our time, and this book will help quench such an evident thirst for clarity, rigor, and depth of thought." — Owen Strachan

"Jeffrey Johnson delivers what he promises: a readable introduction on the core of amillennialism without a thousand rabbit trails distracting! His sharp pastoral eye has peered deeply into the soul of our wider Christian community. With a keen theological mind, he has zeroed in on five key principles that clearly guide through the confusing End Times maze in which many are trapped... Jeffrey Johnson has rung the bell with this fine work!" — Duncan Rankin

THE PURSUIT OF GLORY: Finding Satisfaction in Christ Alone
Jeffrey Johnson

Author Jeffrey Johnson begins 'The Pursuit of Glory' with this observation: "You and I are looking for something. Though we may not know exactly what it is, we continue to search for it. What is it? It is glory." Explaining this pursuit as part of our human condition, the author considers the ways we try to fill that empty place in our hearts through happiness, purpose, freedom, companionship, truth, peace, holiness, and life. He shows us, from Scripture and personal experiences, why and how we will ultimately find satisfaction when our search leads us to the glory of God. Each chapter includes questions for further thought, making this an engaging and useful book both for individuals and groups.

"The Pursuit of Glory is must reading for every Christian. In it Jeffrey Johnson conveys major aspects of Christian living as they relate to glory. His topic is unusual, as it is often thought that only God has glory. Read with faith and know you too may pursue glory—for God is glory!" —Jay Adams, author of Competent to Counsel and many more

"Author Jeffrey Johnson concludes in 'The Pursuit of Glory' that we are all searching for something. He is right. Every person who has ever lived is on a journey to find something of meaning and value in life. What are you pursuing—happiness, freedom, companionship, truth? The key to this search, as you will read in this book, is much more than 'what' you are looking for. Actually, the 'Who' of your search is all important. If you are honestly searching for the meaning and value of life as it is truly to be lived, read this volume from cover to cover. It will point you to finding glory in knowing Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who will give you purpose for your life now and hope for eternal life to come." —Lance Quinn, senior pastor, Bethany Church, Thousand Oaks, California

"This book gives an expanded exposition of the Augustinian summary of human purpose, 'You have made us for yourself, O God, and our hearts are restless until they find their rest in You.' Jeff Johnson wants the reader to experience satisfaction in this universal quest. He is not proposing some secret, mystical incantation or detachment from reality, but points to the plainly revealed, clearly proposed gospel of the birth, life, crucifixion, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus Christ. He is the one in whom all the fullness of the godhead dwells in bodily form. If we would find glory and all its accompanying values, we will find them only in Christ. That is the driving purpose and the clear message of this book. 'Take and read.'" —Tom Nettles, from the Foreword

BEHIND THE BIBLE: A Primer on Textual Criticism
Jeff Johnson

Did the multitude of Biblical scribes who copied the Scriptures by hand throughout the centuries do so with absolute perfection? If not, how can we know that what we now possess is (word for word) what was originally penned by the Biblical authors themselves? 'Behind the Bible' spotlights the divine preservation of Scripture to show that it is not by chance God's Word 'will never pass away.'

"Jeff Johnson has provided a helpful and clear discussion of the key issues behind the 'whys' and 'wherefores' of how we got our New Testament text. In light of the frontal assaults upon the integrity of the text of the New Testament pervasive in our day, it is important for believers to have a knowledge of these matters, and Johnson's work is a useful addition to the introductions available on the subject." - James R. White, author or PULPIT CRIMES

"One of the most difficult areas of Biblical study is the matter of textual criticism. Obviously, this is not something which can be done with perfection, but Jeffrey Johnson has in this book, 'Behind the Bible', shown not only how it is done, but also that it can, when done properly, arrive with a great certainty of the original Biblical text. This book, because of its clarity and helpfulness in the area of textual criticism, is a must read for all pastors and students of the Bible in our day!" - Dr. Richard P. Belcher, Author of Diagramming the Greek New Testament
